POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Dutchess County Pride Center (DCPC) is proud to have partnered with Marist University for a new Writing for Nonprofits course developed by Dr. Catherine Chaterdon. The course focuses on purposeful and intentional writing, with a strong adherence to hands-on community work.
Students from this class helped DCPC rework and rewrite several of our popular, free LGBTQ+ educational guides. DCPC Staff and volunteers frequently distribute these at local community events, which are very well received. Our collection of guides cover topics such as:
How to Support Transgender Youth, focusing on aiding adults, particularly parents of trans youth, through their child’s journey of self-discovery
The ABC’s of LGBTQ, an introduction to LGBTQ+ terminology and ideas, presented for those who want to understand their friends and loved ones but might not be comfortable asking those questions
Pocket Guide on Pride Flags, sharing stories and history behind the iconic flags which are synonymous with the queer rights movement.
“Being able to see what we’ve produced with everything polished was incredibly rewarding,” said Sarah Gurskis ’26, an English major who worked with DCPC. “This class is great because we’re building skills for future job opportunities and adding to our resumes.”
