How it all started

Dutchess County Pride Center was the brainchild of five Dutchess County parents who refused to accept the lack of a local LGBTQ+ organization to provide support to their trans children. One of the first events the Center did was the inaugural 2019 PKGO Pride Parade & Festival, starting on historic Market Street in the City of Poughkeepsie and culminating at the beautiful waterfront Waryas Park.

Every June since, Dutchess Pride has continue to host a monthlong celebration of pride and diversity which includes numerous social events throughout Dutchess County. Additional past events have included picnics, get-togethers, fun runs, author's talks, and theatrical performances.

The annual Poughkeepsie Pride March & Festival is always held on the second Saturday in June.
